Digital Behavior
The actions and interactions of individuals, organizations, and society in the digital space is referred to as "digital behavior’’. This typically involves the use of digital devices and platforms such as cellphones, computers, social media, and online forums to interact, gather information, transact, as well as participate in other online activities. Digital behavior includes a wide range of activities, from simple tasks like checking email and skimming through social media feeds to more complex ones like online banking, online shopping, and the use of virtual reality to interact with people. It also encompasses how people express themselves and interact with others online, including sharing of personal information, engaging in online communities, or even engaging in forms of digital misconduct such as cyberbullying.
Overall, digital behavior is influenced by a complex interaction of human and societal elements, such as technological advancements, cultural norms, and the larger society environment in which technology is deployed.
Reflection
Over the duration of the course, I learnt that using technology ethically and effectively can be mastered, and that digital behavior can aid people in achieving this. This includes understanding how to protect personal information and privacy as well as navigating online safety and security risks. Digital literacy is a competency gained from understanding digital behavior and in today’s globally interconnected world, it is a very essential skill to possess, most especially after knowing the massive volume of data being generated and shared across the internet. From my knowledge of digital behavior and how it relates to big data and internet of things I am now more conscious of things such as reading privacy policies on websites and applications. I am aware of the risks associated digital communications some of which include privacy violations, cybercrime, and misinformation.
Also, as a business student looking forward to working in an organization, it is essential to be mindful of the risks associated with digital behavior. By doing so, I can contribute to the protection of sensitive information and digital systems maintenance wherever I find myself. In addition, I am also able to be contribute to technology solutions and adoption strategies to organizations.
Digital Risk Management
The process of identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing potential hazards associated with the use of technology and digital channels, as well as putting protective measures in place to reduce or eliminate those risks, is known as digital risk management. The rising use of technology and digital channels has resulted in an increase in the number of security threats and dangers, such as data breaches, cyber-attacks, and privacy violations. Effective digital risk management assists organizations and people in mitigating these risks and ensuring the protection of their digital assets and sensitive data. For instance in today's global economy, knowledge from digital risk management can help organizations in their Business Continuity Planning (BCP) in the event of disruption or a disaster. The Covid-19 pandemic saw many organizations adopt business continuity plans in which critical business processes and systems could continue to operate. However, for those that did not make provision for a BCP prior to the pandemic, they struggled to cope with the challenging times.
Reflection
From this module, I was able to learn l how to identify and assess potential digital risks, including the likelihood and potential impact of each risk. In the coming times, I hope to use my knowledge from this module to have a deeper understanding on cybersecurity in the emerging technologies course. In addition, knowledge from this piece has further broadened my mind on various risk mitigation strategies and how to implement them effectively, this includes the implementation of security measures, developing a disaster recovery plan, and as well as the conduction of regular security audits.
Furthermore, in today’s business environment compliance knowledge is also essential and a thing of growing concern most especially in the blockchain technology space, a desired interest of mine. Getting to know about relevant regulations and standards, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) was indeed an important learning point for me.
